We had no idea that today would hold a slightly traumatic moment for you, so we would like to record here our sincerest apology. Daddy and I promise that we are not new to this parenting thing. In fact, we have attempted to parent for quite some time now...10 years, 8 months, 24 days, and 17 hours to be exact.
We had no idea when Daddy shut the car door today at about 5:30 p.m. in the Dance-n-Drill parking lot that all the doors were somehow locked. With you and the keys inside. Praise the Lord, the car was running with the air conditioning on! Or, Mama Bear here would have been breaking a car windshield! But, we aren't exactly sure how it happened. Little Bit later said her elbow did it (i.e., accidentally hit the lock button) and that she tried all the doors before crawling out the back door to Daddy. No one saw or realized what happened, so as the sliding door glided shut, you were all alone in the car. Trapped. Buckled in your seat. Not to get out...for 23 minutes to be exact.
Thank God for that nice Mr. Policeman. He is one of Daddy's friends at work, so Daddy called him to rescue you. We like Policemen and think they definitely come in handy at times. Of course, we are kind of partial to them. Sgt. Grissom is an expert at
You cried nearly the entire time you were locked in. Your tummy was rumbling and you could see us but couldn't understand why we weren't picking you up. The sun was in your eyes and you ended up losing your pacifier amidst your wails. Mommie and Daddy were so sad and felt helpless.
But, it all ended well. We learned to always keep a door open as we are playing musical cars with our kids (aka, transitioning from dance lessons to soccer practice). And, to keep a better eye on where the keys are residing. And, where the 4 year old is wandering. Hopefully, we will never have a torturous repeat of this. I sure wouldn't want to make Sgt. Grissom think that we have a chronic
One final apology...I'm truly sorry for being one of those moms who stops to take a picture to document such a moment. You just looked so pitifully sweet with your swollen, red eyes and with snot and tears running everywhere that I had to snap a quick couple of shots. We love you so much and are so sorry this happened! This won't affect you for life, we hope!

Poor little precious Cooper baby! That breaks my heart! I know you were besides yourself. I'm so glad you had someone who could help! God took care of him, and you're right, he won't be traumatized for life! Glad the air was on and he was safe! :)
PS - He will love the story someday!
