Is It a Cat? Is It a Ghost?

Okay...semi-brief story from my mom's house...

The summer after Chris and I were married (11 years ago!), we found this sweet little kitty who came to live with us. Belle, as we named with dainty feline, was scared to death of our first "child", Sergeant. So, for a few weeks after being "fixed," Belle went to live with my mom during her healing period. Needless to say, Kitty Belle never came back to live with me and Chris. My mom fell in love with her and kept her...until one year ago when Belle passed away from cancer. Poor Kitty Belle.

Fast-forward to last week - the Tuesday before Thanksgiving... we all headed to the Animal Shelter. My mom had decided that she was ready for another kitty - a calm, mid-aged sweetheart of a cat. We petted, held, and talked to the many cats they had there. The shelter had a litter of 4 year old cats whose owner had passed away. The poor kitties were terrified of the shelter - so sad! My mom held a calico cat for a while and then chose to take her home as "the one." She decided to call her Callie and arranged to pick her up the following morning.

This is where the fun begins...you see, we *think* this all was for real and wasn't just in our minds. Once my mom *supposedly* arrived home after picking up Callie from the Animal Shelter, we haven't seen hide or tail of her (literally!). Every once in a while we *believe* we see a blur of a kitty. My mom *hears* munching in the night. The litter box is *mysteriously* being used. And, the kitty food *somehow* disappears.

Is it the cat? Or, is it a ghost?

Who knows? I know my mom wanted a calm cat, but, geez, this is a little extreme! Hopefully, things will settle down soon and the terrified Little Miss Callie will reappear...just in time for her vet appointment and rabies shot on the 8th. After that, we may not see her again until 2009, right?

P.S. I found this precious picture from 2005...I just had to share. Aren't they adorable with their matching Christmas dresses and coats? I love the "cheesy" smiles, too!
