Light in the Dark

My chains are gone

What a worshipful day today, on Easter Sunday. I loved the path our pastor took in today's sermon. It came from Matthew 5:14-16. Just read...

"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven."

A couple of weeks ago, a friend and I were discussing the weight we feel, at times, at how families are being attacked and destroyed. And, we touched on this subject. Our world is more and more becoming dark. And, what is sad is that we are becoming used to it...it doesn't shock us as it once did. It is difficult, I feel, for Christians to remain diligent to Christ - a light in the dark world. We are becoming desensitized to sin. We slowly are allowing some of the dark to creep into our Christian homes, our churches, and our lives. This is disturbing to me! How do I raise children in this increasingly dark world? And, train them to remain a light for Christ? for right? for freedom through salvation? We must cling to the truth that we are to let our lights shine before men! We must not be afraid to stand for right, to advocate for those unable, and to share our light with others. We have to be willing to be a contrast in the world so that we don't lose our sense of right vs. wrong. Oh, that our hearts may remain tender towards others and discerning between what is light and what is dark.

On that note, our family did have a happy Easter. Most of it was celebrated yesterday and, unfortunately, CS had to work during most of it. But, the girls and I dyed our eggs, hid and hunted those eggs, shared a nice early Easter dinner with my family, and welcomed the Easter Bunny's goodies this morning! The girls put on their new dresses and, even though it was cool and stormy this morning, we headed to church. Afterwards, we enjoyed an Easter lunch before CS headed back to work. All in all, a wonderful holiday. It is always nostalgic for me, as three years ago on Easter we brought home our "bunny baby" from the hospital. The best gift possible!
